Archive du Bonheur

Ye-Ye

Archive du Bonheur brings together colorful and luminous portraits of Evans Mbugua’s family, friends, and other acquaintances. Through these familiar faces, the artist creates an archive in which he celebrates joy and seeks to capture the emotions born from everyday encounters. A conversation, an exchanged glance or a shared presence thus become touchstones, preserving the memory of simple yet deeply meaningful moments.

Evans layers paint on plexiglass over original prints of his patterns on paper, creating effects of transparency and depth. Light passes through these layers and animates the portraits, intensifying their presence and inviting the viewer into an almost tactile experience in which color, texture and light enter into dialogue with memory and emotion.

Through these works, Evans Mbugua constructs a personal archive of happiness that, in a profoundly optimistic gesture, brings to light the invisible bonds that unite us.
